Did you know that Google Reader, one of the most popular RSS Readers, was shut down on July 1, 2013? Users quickly moved on to alternatives, and competitor Feedly gained 2 million new users in the weeks following Google’s announcement. Today, there are many feeds you can follow with your RSS reader. Most people like using their reader as a news feed aggregator. Here are three top RSS news feeds, as well as some of their more popular stories today.
1. CNN News Feed
Former offensive tackle Brian Holloway went to Tampa over Labor Day weekend, and during his stay away, his son said there were tweets about a party in their home in Stephentown, New York. Once he realized the tweets were real, Holloway contacted police, but by the time they arrived, the partygoers had already broken in, put holes through walls, spray painted, and stolen multiple items. The 170 who tweeted about the party made a big mistake, however, because Holloway and police now know their identities. This week, he invited them to be accountable and help him clean up his home.
2. Fox News Feeds
The Pope has spoken, and he certainly continues to have a lot to say. Pope Francis has warned that the Catholic Church might be losing its moral edifice if it does not balance its many rules about contraception, gays, and abortion with the need to make a church a more welcoming place for parishioners. Francis is only about six months into his papacy but is already breaking quickly away from the more traditional paths his predecessors had followed. RSS feed websites report that he caused a stir recently in an interview when he replied, “Who am I to judge?” concerning the sexual orientation of priests.
3. Reuters RSS Feed
Halliburton Co. has just pleaded guilty to destroying evidence of its role in the 2010 BP oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico that killed 11 people and released more than 4 million barrels of oil into the ocean. As a result of the guilty plea, the company was fined the maximum of $200,000, and placed on three year probation. Halliburton had blamed BP for the spill, citing their use of six centralizers instead of the 21 Halliburton recommended. However, test simulations Halliburton ran, and then deleted, showed otherwise.
